General Discussion / Re: Webui complexity
« on: May 17, 2011, 01:50:50 pm »
I think it's more helpful to post a link to the fw. It's the one for APM-J011-WS

just try insmodding it with f option

# insmod -f /bin/vntwusb.o

and another difficulty: there are two different formats of webui.
so if one just mixes up div. romfs and webuis (in search for a combination working on his bricked cam) chances are good they won't be compatible....

Hmmm,

did you take a look at the Apexis webui?
I think it is much more logically structured than the foscam one, the size being approx. the same.

And it has a seperate login for mobile clients

General Discussion / Re: Making the serial connection
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:55:09 pm »
Hi,

there are two more options I regularly use for these purpose:

a) I wire a 3.5mm female stereo connector to the pcb that I mount to the housing of the device. So I can use my standard "serial cable" where I fitted a 3.5mm stereo jack for use with most of my devices.

b) I just use standard 2.54 mm spaced, one inch length pin strip. If inserted deeeply in the 2mm spaced holes, it gives a pretty good and easily removable contact.

if it's a foscam 8909 clone you may try to download the apexis APM-J011-WS fw.
they seem to have various drivers compiled in.

General Discussion / Re: Hidden DDNS?
« on: May 14, 2011, 04:03:50 am »
Hi,
some of the manufacturers at least tell you that they provide this service for you and show you the url for your cam. Some of them also contact some kind of stun-server to get your public IP (don't know why, the ddns server should get it anyhow. maybe sth with the chinese firewalls?).
BUT all I have seen don't provide possibility to disable that service; maybe if you configure alternate ddns?
Only thing to prevent cams from phoning home would be to have an bogous entry in your routers hosts for the smarteye server.

hmmm ....

is it more likely that some binary in the romfs has
a) the address hardcoded or
b) that it is "intelligent" and decides dynamically on the size of flash?

if a) then the table would be sufficient
if b) then one needs to know where the used binary in romfs (or the kernel?) expects the webui

maybe if one uses the ipcam tool to upload the webui, it automatically gets flashed to the correct location?

the cmos sensor seems to be an micron mi360, so it should be possible to get 800x600.
For me, the webui is faulty, because if I switch to a lower resolution, I expect the area of the picture to stay the same, only to be more "unsharp". Instead the size of picture gets smaller and smaller surounded by a black frame ....

some thoughts on the webui:
it looks like some ppl have problems with the webui, because it was flashed to the wrong address. There seem to be two locations where the webui is expected to be and this locations most likely have to be regarded either in the kernel or some binary in the romfs. So it might depend on what kernel/romfs one uses where one has to place the webui

some hint on the kermit dump script:
it allways does 1 block too many.

Similar Hardware / "hootoo" brand sold in Germany
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:53:40 am »
Hi!

I recently bought that IP-cam via Amazon Germany. Vendor doesn't give any support.
Find attached pictures from the box, PCB and GUI.
I'll try to dump the fw maybe next week...

Could be similar to Apexis or 7Links (looking at GUI) has white! front led.
Seems to have 4MB flash (looking at part#), USB-WLAN is Ralink.

Any thoughts/comments on that piece of HW?

Maybe it would be good to have a list of PCB names/pictures ?

P.S.: the WLAN can't pick up ch12 & ch13. Is this a common problem? Would it be fixable by modding the existing fw by e.g. setting some shell variable?

P.P.S: it is/was Apexis OEM, so if your unknown cam has white LED and similar webui chances are good that apexis fw for APM-J011-WS will work.
