Hi everyone!
I bought 3 wanscam AJ-C0WA-B606 camera from dealextreme ( http://www.dealextreme.com/p/1-4-cmos-300kp-waterproof-wifi-network-surveillance-wireless-camera-w-60-ir-led-night-vision-59663 )

They arrived separately-separately. So When i got the first camera. i cound't even use the cam with the original firmware. Thats why i upgraded it to Foscam FI8903-04-fw11.15.2.17 firmware. It work as i want only wifi doesn't work. i tired Foscam FI8903W.04W.05W--11.25.2.38 firmware as well but problem is the same.

When i got the second camera. It came with(Device Firmware Version 0.0.2.1, Web UI Version     0.0.4.10 ) what works good wifi works also, but the quality is worse than with foscam fw.

On the Third camera witch arrived with a newer FW (Device Firmware Version 0.37.2.38 Web UI Version     0.9.4.11) It works good to, wifi works too. but the image quality is the worst i've ever seen.

So you guys, I need your help. Does anybody have a good firmware for these cams? or is there any way, to fix wifi problem with the foscam fw, cuz that firmware make the most clear image, the others is sux.

Sorry for bad english.

you could try this wanscam fw, it's 0.23.2.31 only but maybe compatible with your WiFi ???

I don't think that picture quality is related to fw, at least all my experiments didn't show any signifficant differences. They may come with different defaults maybe affecting your impression of quality.

Most (99%) of the fw even support the same "options" but most of the time tey are notg implemented in the WebUI of a particular supplier (even if OEM one does).

Unfortunately "Wanscam support" is straight out the other side of "customer care"....

no no.
Look at the difference
Foscam FW FI8903W.04W.05W--11.25.2.38 :image > http://dajkusz.uw.hu/F.jpg
Wanscam FW 0.37.2.38                  :image > http://dajkusz.uw.hu/W.jpg
Foscam pic is mirrored but that doesn't matter. check the quality

I tired that fw already, wifi still doesn't work with that.

hmmm, interesting as this are all 300kp devices. Maybe Lawrence has some idea about what could be the difference? Are the chips able to operate in different quality modes? Does foscam sw have newer drivers for cmos chip?  (I have seen different version of "dvm usb cam driver 0.0.0.0 by Maverick Gao in 2006-8-12" but I didn't see difference in quality)

Is it only affecting still pictures (jpg) or live video too?

it looks like the only thing you could do is dump the fw from the working cam and flash it to the other one (two). Would be nice if you offer it to the admin for the file area, too.

There is only 1 quality mode. I dont know about the chip driver.
These pictures was captured from live video. but snapshoot is in the same quality.
I dont know how to capture that FW, but unfortunatelly that FW image quality is bad:( the good thing about that fw is only that wifi works.
there is no way to fix wifi with foscam FW?

unfortunately the wifi drivers are compiled into the kernel (1st part of the fw update) and has to be accompanied by a fitting configuration tool/file that is part of the included filesystem (romfs, 2nd part of the fw update). Usually there are only 2 versions of wifi chips used, VIA and Ralink and usually both are compiled into the fw.

Dumping the fw is done via the serial connection on the pcb and does implicate opening the device, thus loosing warranty.

in the "similar hw" section one user has a b/g/n wifi in a standard ir-cut wanscam, so maybe they ran out of old wifi boards and started fitting newer?

up to now noone has dumped a fw for cams with n support, I suppose.

Hi

I just bought a Wanscam AJ-C2WA-C198 off ebay.

http://www.99safe.com/product/product_show_24736.html

The PQ is awful.  Everything is purplish, even when IR lights are off. Will the above FW work on this model?  I can post any other info.

thx

Hi,
not very likely (your cam most probably is 2MB device and this fw is for 4MB).
And it definitely won't solve your problem with color.

You bought a device without ir-cut, so you have two options:
a) live with color cast and have night vision
b) buy a lens with ir-filter and loose night vision

Does the Foscam have the IR-Cut? Or any other that you like?

There are some manufacturers offering ir-cut:

Apexis, Dericam, EasyN, Wanscam (ali2), Wansview

you just have to look for "ir-cut" or "no color cast"
