Similar Hardware / cheap buy
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:54:01 am »
for those who can order in germany / austria Pollin Electronic has a plain "clone" cam (no ir-cut) for €49,95. It seems to be apexis OEM branded as PremiumBlue.

General Discussion / TRENDNET ip-cams w serious SECURITY flaw

most of their products have a (now) well documented backdoor

Similar Hardware / ali2 ir-cut (OEM wanscam)
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:01:34 am »

I recently bought an "ali2" - rebranded WansCAM (the one with the dolphin) AJ-C2WA-D118 - the lens (allthough quite wide angled) and IR-cut filter are ok, but the cmos sensor is total crap :more stuck pixels than on cheapest USB cam. The firmware is not even beta ... (no WLAN ch. 12&13 for EU, no relay control, no framerate slector))

They claim "refund all if no satisfy" but I fear they won't (mostlikely won't refund any shipping).

Lets see if they at least offer compensation, then I will open and analyse the hw/fw.

General Discussion / database to determine brand & make of ip-cam
« on: August 19, 2011, 01:38:50 am »
I think it would be favourable to have a little db with certain details about various cams that allow to distinguish brand & make of a cam.

I suggest following details:

picture of webui
version numbers of fw/webui
factory ddns url
(picture of pcb)*
(flashsize, partitioning)*

it would also be favourable if ppl would dump and upload the related roms*

*if willing to open device

Firmware / interesting behaviour
« on: June 17, 2011, 07:25:35 am »

today I decided to play a bit with different fw again.

with one kernal I got following message
Code: [Select]
new USB device :80fb4004-fed740
hub.c: new USB device 1, assigned address 2
detect_sensor: mi360
dvm cmos successfully initialized
dvm camera registered as video0
new USB device :80fb4404-fed740
hub.c: new USB device 2, assigned address 3
usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x148f/0x2573) is not claimed by any active driver.

so some kernels don't even have all/both? WLAN drivers included ...

After some hits and misses, I reloaded the fw that was working ok for the last couple of weeks. But then I got quite a shock: the cam started rebooting with the dreaded
Code: [Select]
_i2c_write: write i2c error
_i2c_write: write i2c error
write i2c error

update: ok, it now takes allways ~5 reboots before the system is stable and the cam functions ok.
looks like one of the fw modified my cam chip initialisation ???

update2: ok, it behaves differently without lan connection. The repeated attempts to connect to the ntp server delay the final i2c error long enough ....
with wlan it depends on how fast the wlan connection reapears for the consecutive boots ...

update3: and now it reboots every couple of hours ...

General Discussion / new fostar
« on: May 20, 2011, 06:06:21 am »

I took the liberty to expand the existing fostar utility with the ability to create the new webui format. Feel free to check it in at the sourcefore project, I didn't bother to get an account.

The windows version is (like unix) command line only !, so do "start - run - cmd" and use from there.

(replaced with corrected version)
(again replaced with corrected version)
(updated version)

Similar Hardware / "hootoo" brand sold in Germany
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:53:40 am »

I recently bought that IP-cam via Amazon Germany. Vendor doesn't give any support.
Find attached pictures from the box, PCB and GUI.
I'll try to dump the fw maybe next week...

Could be similar to Apexis or 7Links (looking at GUI) has white! front led.
Seems to have 4MB flash (looking at part#), USB-WLAN is Ralink.

Any thoughts/comments on that piece of HW?

Maybe it would be good to have a list of PCB names/pictures ?

P.S.: the WLAN can't pick up ch12 & ch13. Is this a common problem? Would it be fixable by modding the existing fw by e.g. setting some shell variable?

P.P.S: it is/was Apexis OEM, so if your unknown cam has white LED and similar webui chances are good that apexis fw for APM-J011-WS will work.
