General Discussion / Re: Foscam F18910W recording

The reason is that I couldn't find a solution to why the files were hidden. Contacted Foscam and after a couple of back and forth things to try, they said use VLC. I did and it's ok, I can see and playback the recordings. It's a solution.

It seems I have to use VLC to be able to see and read the file. A bit of a nuisance.
Thanks for your reply-Bob

General Discussion / Foscam F18910W recording
« on: January 10, 2013, 07:34:26 pm »
Having problems recording a file. It appears to record, I save and then can't see the file. If i record again, when I goto save I can see the previous saved file and it's size, but, again after saving can't see it to open. I know the folder where it is supposed to be. I'm using Win7 with IE, so active x . Contacting Foscam support they are now suggesting I use VLC. I really don't want to do that.
Any suggestions ?

Recieved  the camera a couple of days ago. Only issue so far is the manual showed a port number of
88, I used 81,which worked local, not when I tried internet. Had to set it to 8090 and have someone try it from another computer . Now seems like a good unit. Not the frustration of the other unit "Wanscam" or what ever it is.

Ineresting ,I found a couple of control programs -I use IP Camera Viewer 1.2 to provide PTZ control and Eye Line Video System to record and a couple of other functions. For both of these programs I  use the Wanscanm AH-C2WA-B168 setup. The web site selling these on E-Bay show using the VSTARCAM control program. I have tried to upgrade the Firmware with VSTARCam ,but, get a message
saying "failed to read version information of latest ROM" I think the people selling this on E-Bay are selling junk. I attempted to get E-Bay to look into it-no go.
Other than the software the unit seems ok-I put it out side  using wireless and all ok with the temperature down to minus 7 Centigrade. It would be nice if I could get  a working firmware.
I ordered a new Foscam ,should be here in a couple of days. Hope it doesn't have issues .

Those are all valid points you make. The latest and greatest is not always the best.
Even though I seem to have my camera working to the point it will no longer be a paper weight, I think I will still go ahead with the purchase of a new one.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Well I can't believe my luck-downloaded a third party display software. The kind you can select different IP cam -tried AH-C2WA-B168 Wanscam and I can display and control the Camera. Looked on the Wanscam site ,doesn't seem to be any programs for download. Wonder who Wanscam is compatiable with.

Well crap-are there any that work :) My thinking is that they are the only "local" supplier and if they stand behind thier Warranty/Service stetements , then one should be able to work through the issues.

Considering the F1810, seems like a reasonable unit. I have checked around on the internet ,can't find a lot wrong. Maybe I'll be lucky and get a good one.

Lookig for a reliable unit with competive features. I'm going away for a couple of months ,so planning on being able to check the property when I connect to the Internet. I bought an H265 unit off of E-Bay- the sofyware is crap, so want to try another unit. The equipment I have now can use b/g/n, I assume even though a couple of the Foscam are only b/g that shouldn,t be an issue.

That being the case, might as well buy from China direct. That would be a sad conclusion to have to come too. I've used support from China in the past. Ran into some problems with language. They do speak english better than i speak Chinese.
Do you know of better Icams then the Foscam -same price range ?

Considering to buy a Foscam Cam. Went to the Canadian Web site. POP UP asking if I had questions.
I asked a question from sales-no answer. Later asked Service a question, again no answers. So, 3-5 questions, no answer.
Then I gave a negative rating and I get a message that since it was negative it would be removed.
Either I am missing something or Foscam needs to make some changes.
One of the statements is that if you buy from them on line you get support-hope it's a lot better than that experience. I was one finger close to ordering
